Siri is an awesome tool. There’s a lot you can do with it (her?). You probably already know that she can make calls, set appointments, and be quite funny sometimes. But the other day I heard some say that they “quit using Siri after about the first week”, and I just knew it was because they hadn’t realized yet all they could do.
Siri can do a lot more than most people realize. Nearly anything you can think of to do with the native iPhone Apps, Siri can usually handle it. There are some things that we wish she could do (like send a tweet), but a lot of that is getting taken care of in the next version of iOS.
One of the most helpful things Siri has done for me lately has been on the Notes and Reminders Apps. I think it’ll be even better when Mountain Lion comes out this month, as these items will now be synced to my desktop, but even now, Siri has been quite helpful at helping me make note of blog post ideas. Here’s how to do it, and the only hand you’ll need is to press and hold the Home button on your iPhone.
How to get Siri to make a list of blog post ideas
- When Siri chimes in, tell her you want to “create a blog post ideas note”. She’ll make one and confirm it for you.
- The next time you’re walking down the street and a lightbulb comes on, tells Siri to “add [your blog post idea] to the blog post ideas note”. If you were speaking clearly, she should add it easily, and tell you so.
- There’s no step 3. That’s literally all there is.
And of course this works great with other types of lists, too. Groceries (although that might be better for the Reminders App, as it’s location-aware), reading list, movies to watch, pretty much anything you can think of. Now that you know how, you’ll never forget a great blog idea again!
